Sports Medicine

Our Mission

The Governor Mifflin Sports Medicine staff will strive to provide every student-athlete with the most comprehensive, highest quality individual sports medicine health care available in a professional, efficient, compassionate, and service-oriented manner. We provide diversified prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation program that will assure a positive healthy recovery experience, improved quality of life, safe return to full athletic participation, and continued athletic success. We will work in coordination with the team sports medicine physicians and community health care providers (EMS, police, school nurses) to provide the best possible care to all participating student-athletes.

What is an Athletic Trainer?

Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training, and the state’s statutes, rules, and regulations.  As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination, and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

Athletic Physicals

Physical examinations are required for any athlete wishing to participate in a school sponsored PIAA sport. All student athletes are required to submit the specific Section 6 PIAA physical form, as other wellness forms will not be accepted.  Forms can be found on the online student platform. Physicals must be certified on or after May 1 of the upcoming school year. The physical form will be valid for the entire school year. If your physical is completed more than six weeks prior to the start of your sports’ season a re-certification must be completed. Physicals are offered by the Governor Mifflin School District prior to the start of each sports season. If student athletes opt to have a physical provided by the District during one of the four designated athletic physical dates, the physical is provided free of charge. Please check the District calendar as physical dates are announced throughout the year. Athletes may also opt to have a physical performed by a private physician; however, the physical must complete the PIAA Section 6 form. As per PIAA law, other wellness forms will not be accepted.

Effective for the 2026-2027 school year, the Governor Mifflin School District Athletics Department will begin using Arbiter to manage sports schedules, team registration, and sports physical forms for students in grades 7-12. This will replace BigTeams/Student Central platforms currently in use, which have been acquired by Arbiter. Effective May 1, 2026, all PIAA Physical Forms and sports registration for the 2026-2027 school year should be completed via the Arbiter platform. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Athletic Office.
