Homeschooling
Homeschooling Requirements
Under Act 169, a homeschooling parent/guardian (supervisor) residing in the district must file an affidavit by August 1st of each school year. The affidavit must contain the following:
- The supervisor’s complete name; the full name and age of each enrolled child; and the program site’s address and phone number
- Copy of high school diploma or its equivalent for the home school supervisor
- Statement of compliance with Pennsylvania home education law.
- An outline of proposed educational objectives, by subject area, for subjects required by law.
- Statement that the courses will be taught in English.
- Evidence of the child’s immunizations in accordance with Section 1303 of PA Act 14, or documentation of religious exemption
- Evidence of required health and medical services for the sutdent’s age/grade level as per Article XIV
- All students new to home school need to complete this
- Students entering grade 6 and 11 must complete this
- Evidence of required dental services for the student’s age/grade level as per Article XIV
- All students new to home school program must complete this
- Students entering grades 3 and 7 must complete this
- A notarized affidavit, signed by the homeschool education supervisor (parent, guardian, or person having legal custody of the student).
- Certification that the supervisor and all adults living in the home and other custodial adults have not been convicted of criminal offenses listed in the law within the last five years.
- Home school students must be assessed in English and Math in grades 3,5, and 8, using either PSSA’s during the testing window or one of the 11 other nationally normed standardized tests.
End of the School Year
A written evaluation by a qualified evaluator must be submitted for each student at the conclusion of the school year. The completed evaluation must be submitted to the GMSD Education Center at 10 South Waverly Street, Shillington PA, 19607 by June 30th of that school year.
