Good afternoon Governor Mifflin School District Families,

We are reaching out to you today due to some concern regarding an incident which occurred at Governor Mifflin Middle School this morning. At around 10:00 AM, during construction within the building, a small area of the floor gave way resulting in a construction worker, who is not a GMSD employee, falling through this area. The worker was rescued by fire and EMS crews and we are wishing this individual a speedy recovery. Construction in this area has been halted and is pending a structural review.

We have heard some concern from parents as this incident relates to the safety our middle school students. We want to reassure families that students will at no time have access to any active construction areas. While there are a few unfinished areas within the building that will be utilized by students, these areas are purely cosmetic and do not pose any risk to our students, nor will any construction be conducted in these areas during school hours.

As we communicated earlier in the summer, both Governor Mifflin Middle School and Governor Mifflin High School will still be under construction throughout the duration of the school year. While we understand this is not ideal, we intend to continue these projects in a way that keeps students safe, poses little to no interruption to the learning process, and is as efficient as possible.

As always, the Governor Mifflin School District’s top priority is the safety of our students. We thank you for your concern.

Sincerely,
Governor Mifflin School District
