Before and After School Services at GMSD

Dear Governor Mifflin School District Families,

We understand and recognize the importance of before and after school programs and have continued to evaluate our current programming in an effort to best meet the needs of our community. As such, we have chosen to partner with Right at School, a nationally recognized care provider, to provide on-site before and after school care for Brecknock Elementary, Cumru Elementary, Mifflin Park Elementary, and Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. These on-site care services will replace those previously rendered by the YMCA of Reading and Berks County.

The Right At School before school program begins at 7:00 AM and runs until the beginning of the school day and the after school program runs from the time the school bell rings until 6:00 PM. Parents will be able to work with Right at School to create flexible monthly schedules to support families’ busy lives. Families are able to create their own monthly schedules and choose part time, full time, or drop-in care options, allowing parents to only pay for the care which is needed. Right at School also offers a 10% sibling discount, 50% discount to district employees, and discounts for economically disadvantaged families.

Every day students will have a healthy snack, engage in dynamic fitness activities, student driven projects, team building, leadership development, and have the opportunity to complete homework. Right at School also features an enriched curriculum in the form of two-week units. Examples of units include:

• State of the Art, where students explore some of today’s biggest names in art for inspiration and create paintings, sculptures, and the like

• Right Club Castaways, where students will use their outdoor survival skills, including shelter-building, tool-making, and harnessing Mother Nature’s power to become the ultimate outdoor adventurers

• Variety Show, where students will experience all of the elements of putting on a polished performance, like rehearsing, marketing, becoming an emcee, and taking to the stage for a memorable night with family and friends.
