GMSD School Board Flagpole Donation Drive

Dear Governor Mifflin School District Community,

Our Governor Mifflin School Board of Directors hopes that this message finds you well. We are writing to you today because we are currently raising funds to install a flagpole in front of our new Governor Mifflin Athletic Community Center (GMACC) and we would like to request your financial support in this endeavor.

The district is compliant with Section 771 of the Public School Code, which specifies that a U.S. flag shall be displayed “upon or near each public school building…” 24 P.S.§ 7-771(a) with flagpoles located within several hundred feet at the Governor Mifflin Stadium, Governor Mifflin Practice Field, Governor Mifflin Education Center, and Governor Mifflin High School. Given the proximity of these flagpoles, and that the flag at the Governor Mifflin High School is also directly visible from the new building, the district opted not to use taxpayer money to add a flagpole on site. However, during recent board meetings, we have heard several community members speak out in favor of adding a flagpole on-site; therefore, we have chosen to conduct a donation drive in support of the addition.

We are seeking to raise approximately $8,900 in support of this project, which includes material expenses including the pole, flag, and lighting as well as the cost of installation. Donations may be made via check and should be mailed to Governor Mifflin School District Education Center, 10 S. Waverly St., Shillington, PA 19607. Checks should be made payable to Governor Mifflin School District; please include the phrase ‘flag pole’ in the memo line to ensure your donation is designated to the project.

All donations to this project are tax-deductible and Governor Mifflin School District will issue a letter acknowledging your gift for your records.
