Superintendent Search Update: Dr. Hess To Be Next Superintendent

Governor Mifflin School District Community,

On Monday, February 6, 2023, the Governor Mifflin School Board of Directors announced that they plan to appoint Dr. Lisa Hess to the role of Superintendent upon the finalization of her contract. Dr. Hess will officially take over the role beginning July 1, 2023, following current Superintendent Bill McKay’s retirement on June 30.

This decision comes after an exhaustive and formal search both locally and nationwide to fill the role. In order to determine the values and qualities that our community deems most integral to a Superintendent for our district, we administered a survey, which was made available to parents, staff, students, and the greater Governor Mifflin community. Results indicated the need for a candidate who maintained high academic performance, possessed extensive leadership experience, exhibits integrity, is trustworthy, and is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These qualities are apparent in all of the work Dr. Hess has done within our district and we are confident that she will lead with these ideals in mind as she moves forward in this role.

Dr. Hess, who currently serves in the role of Assistant Superintendent, is a familiar face within the district. She completed the entirety of her K-12 education with Governor Mifflin and is a proud member of the Governor Mifflin High School Class of 1992. She has served 16 years of her 26-year career in education with our district as an English teacher, Associate Principal, Acting Principal, Director of Teaching and Learning, and her current role as Assistant Superintendent. Her dedication to our district is clear and will be an immense asset as she takes on this position.

Dr. Hess also brings to this position a wealth of knowledge in both educational and leadership practices. She holds a Bachelor of Science in English Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education and Principal Certification from Cabrini College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She also participated in Albright Total Experience Learning’s first educator cohort and champions the principles of student-centered, future-focused learning. 

As a district, we are highly excited to see Dr. Hess take on this position and further expand her impact on our students, staff, and broader Governor Mifflin community.
