Dear GMSD Families,

We hope this message finds you well and that the school year is off to a great start for your children. We are writing to inform you about a nationwide shortage of school nurses, a challenge that many educational institutions across the country are currently facing. Although each of our GMSD schools has a full-time licensed nurse assigned to it, there is a need for nursing coverage when our nurses are out, and for some of our field trips. Due to the nursing shortage, the agencies we use to help us fill these roles are also having difficulty finding licensed nurses to cover these needs. In light of this situation, we are reaching out to our school district community for assistance.

Your child's health and well-being are of paramount importance to us, and we want to ensure we maintain the highest level of care and support for all our students. To address the shortage, we are actively seeking licensed nurses who may be willing to serve as substitute nurses on an as-needed basis. This role would involve running the school nurse's office and potentially accompanying students on field trips when the regular school nurse is unavailable.

If you or someone you know is a licensed nurse with the skills and compassion to care for our students, we invite you to consider becoming a substitute school nurse. By joining our team, you can make a significant impact on the health and safety of our students.

Responsibilities for a Substitute School Nurse:

  • Administer basic medical care to students as needed.
  • Provide support to students with chronic health conditions.
  • Assist with medication administration.
  • Maintain accurate health records and documentation.

If you are interested in this rewarding opportunity or would like to receive additional information, please reach out to our Director of Student Services, Brian Bell, at brian.bell@gmsd.org. Mr. Bell will be happy to provide further details, answer any questions, and guide you through the application process.

Your willingness to step forward as a substitute school nurse is greatly appreciated, as it allows us to continue providing high-quality care for our students. Your contribution can make a substantial difference in their lives and education.
