Student Health and Safety Protocols

At GMSD, we prioritize fostering a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive. We understand the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and academic well-being, and their combined influence on student success.

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to supporting the holistic development of our students. This includes, but is not limited to, school nurses who address basic health needs, school counselors who provide social-emotional support, a BCBA who assists staff in creating individualized plans for improving student behavior, social workers who provide a variety of resources to students and families, a Safe Schools and Culture team who focus on improving the overall experiences of our students. These experts collaborate closely to create a comprehensive support system that addresses student health, safety, and well-being throughout their GMSD experience.

To achieve this, our dedicated team is actively involved in ongoing assessment, planning, protocol development, training, and evaluation. This proactive approach ensures that potential health and safety concerns are identified and addressed swiftly, minimizing disruptions to learning. We also equip staff to effectively respond to emergency situations, keeping everyone safe.

Progressive Consequences

Our approach to student behavior combines restorative practices with progressive consequences. Restorative practices focus on repairing harm caused by misconduct, allowing students to take responsibility and make amends. Progressive consequences involve increasing the severity of disciplinary consequences for repeated offenses. This approach aims to create a positive learning environment where students are held accountable for their actions while also being given opportunities to learn and grow.
